UK: Prepare For The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
The EU GDPR was adopted on 27 April 2016 and it will become law on 25 May 2018.
The regulation is universally applicable and affects any organisation that does business with an EU organisation or individual. The GDPR will increase privacy for individuals and give regulatory authorities greater powers to take action against businesses that breach the new laws. No matter where you are based in the world, if you want to do business within the EU, you will need to comply with the GDPR. There are tough penalties in place: fines of up to 4% of annual global revenue or Euro20 million, whichever is greater.
